Blossom’s read

UvA is a serious, research-led university rather than a standalone psychedelic school, so its value here is chiefly academic legitimacy and interdisciplinary breadth. The clearest psychedelic offering I found is an intensive summer course on psychedelics, culture and religion, aimed at advanced students and working professionals rather than beginners or people seeking hands-on facilitation training. Its edge is scholarly depth and strong lineage in religious studies and psychedelics scholarship, but it does not read like a practitioner-certification pathway.

Who University of Amsterdam is for

Best suited to advanced Bachelor’s and Master’s students, PhD/post-docs, and professionals in clinical, therapeutic, policy, education or guide roles who want a humanities and social-science lens on psychedelics. It is less obviously aimed at absolute beginners or people seeking a clinical skills credential.

Prerequisites

Applicants need a strong academic background and sufficient relevant background for the intensive summer course. The application asks for transcripts, licence or registration, a CV, and a motivation letter, and notes that participants should be able to read and write at an academic level in English.

Accreditation & recognition

The summer course is worth 4 ECTS and is delivered as short-term university teaching, but I found no claim that it confers a professional certification, CME or CE credit, or licensure-recognised credential. UvA is a comprehensive research university with a strong academic reputation, and the course is taught on campus in English.

Cost

For the summer course, the academic fee is €1,500 for students and €2,000 for professionals. Housing is optional and listed separately at €750 for a private room with shared facilities, lunch is provided on class days, and there is a non-refundable €25 application fee.

What you walk away with

Learners walk away with 4 ECTS and a structured scholarly understanding of the historical, anthropological, sociological, religious, political and ethical contexts of psychedelic use and research. The course is framed as deepening academic or professional practice rather than issuing a clinical qualification.
