Blossom’s read

Exeter sits near the academic end of the psychedelic education spectrum rather than the retreat or coaching end. Its offer is strongest for people who want a rigorous, university-backed frame around psychedelics, especially clinicians, counsellors and psychiatrists, plus research-minded learners. The field credibility is fairly strong because the teaching is tied to a dedicated psychedelic research centre and is described by Exeter as being led by academics at the forefront of the subject, with Celia Morgan and Christine Hauskeller among the named figures. It looks less like an experiential initiation and more like an intellectually serious, professionally oriented programme with a clear research and clinical tilt.

Who Exeter University is for

Best suited to therapists, counsellors, psychiatrists and other graduates who want a scholarly grounding in psychedelic science, therapy, ethics and culture. It also suits research-minded learners who are considering further study in the area.

Prerequisites

For the PGCert and MSc pages, Exeter asks for a 2:1 degree in any subject. Applications from people with relevant professional or practical experience may also be considered, and international students must meet the stated English language requirement. Some routes also note relevance for therapists, counsellors and psychiatrists, but no clinical licence is stated as a blanket requirement.

Accreditation & recognition

Exeter says the PGCert is the UK's first academically certified programme in psychedelics studies, and the Education page for the Exeter Psychedelic Interdisciplinary Centre describes the shorter online PGCert as an accredited University qualification in Psychedelic Studies. I found no evidence on these pages of external professional accreditation such as a clinical licensure or a CME/CE framework.

Cost

The online PGCert is listed at £5,000 for the full award, with flexible payment options, and Exeter says the fee does not need to be paid upfront. I did not find a full fee breakdown for the MSc in the material reviewed.

What you walk away with

Learners can expect a university qualification in psychedelic studies, plus grounding in psychedelic therapy, neuroscience, anthropology, ethics, metaphysics and research methods. The MSc adds a research project, while the PGCert is framed as a foundation for those who may later pursue practitioner training or further study.
