This randomised, open-label, wait-list-controlled trial (n=20) found that MDMA-assisted therapy reduced social anxiety symptoms more than waiting for treatment and improved functioning in adults with social anxiety disorder (SAD).

Psychedelic Intimacy: Altered States of Consciousness in Romantic Relationships

Interviews with six young romantic couples who used classic psychedelics together yielded three core themes—navigating anxiety, reshaping practices and encountering bliss—that characterised their shared altered-state experiences. These experiences met interactional intimacy criteria (self‑exposure, positive involvement, shared understanding) but were distinct enough to warrant a novel concept of "psychedelic intimacy" and indicate potential for psychedelic‑assisted couples therapy.

A Systematic Review of Reporting Practices in Psychedelic Clinical Trials: Psychological Support, Therapy, and Psychosocial Interventions

This systematic review of 33 psychedelic clinical trials found pervasive underreporting of psychosocial intervention details — for example, 33% omitted number of sessions, 45% omitted session duration, 42% omitted provider credentials, 52% did not report use of a therapy manual, 67% provided no accessible manual, and 82% did not assess treatment fidelity. Reporting was poorer than in non‑psychedelic trials, and the authors recommend standardised reporting of psychological support and fidelity measures to improve research transparency and treatment outcomes.

Overcoming blinding confounds in psychedelic randomized controlled trials using biomarker driven causal mediation analysis

This commentary (2023) suggests that causal mediation analysis using objective biomarkers could help establish causal pathways between treatment and outcome, providing greater confidence in the efficacy of psychedelic therapies before they are approved as regular medicines. This cautious approach is recommended to avoid potential drawbacks such as expanding indications based on low-quality evidence and unstable efficacy over time.

Effects of ayahuasca on gratitude and relationships with nature: An open-label, naturalistic study

In an open-label naturalistic study of 54 retreat participants, ayahuasca use was associated with significant increases in gratitude, nature relatedness and nature appreciation at one week and one month post-retreat, with weak-to-moderate correlations between these increases and mystical-type experiences and awe but not ego dissolution. The findings suggest ayahuasca-occasioned mystical and awe experiences may lead to personality changes beneficial for mental health and prosocial behaviour, though further research is required.

Ayahuasca in the treatment of bipolar disorder with psychotic features-A retrospective case study

This retrospective case study describes a woman with bipolar disorder and psychotic features whose suicidality, dissociation and social isolation markedly improved and were sustained after multiple ayahuasca ceremonies, with corroboration of childhood abuse and ongoing symptom reduction over several years. The report suggests potential therapeutic benefits of ayahuasca for severe traumatisation and bipolar symptoms and situates the case within a brief review of low‑dose ayahuasca and LSD treatment literature.
