Cost-effectiveness of midomafetamine-assisted therapy (MDMA-AT) in chronic and treatment-resistant post-traumatic stress disorder of moderate or higher severity: A health-economic model

Using a health state-transition model, midomafetamine-assisted therapy for chronic, moderate-or-higher PTSD produced a 0.377 QALY gain over five years at an incremental cost of $31,613, yielding an ICER of $83,845 per QALY. These results indicate MDMA-AT is likely cost-effective versus placebo with therapy at a $150,000 willingness-to-pay threshold (assuming a $12,000 per-session drug price).

The therapeutic alliance between study participants and intervention facilitators is associated with acute effects and clinical outcomes in a psilocybin-assisted therapy trial for major depressive disorder

In a randomised, waiting‑list‑controlled psilocybin‑assisted therapy trial for major depressive disorder (N = 24), therapeutic alliance strengthened over time and higher alliance ratings before and shortly after dosing predicted stronger acute mystical and psychological‑insight experiences and significantly greater reductions in depressive symptoms up to 12 months. These results highlight the therapeutic relationship as an important predictor of both acute psychedelic experiences and long‑term clinical outcomes.

Effects of MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD on self-experience

This re-analysis of an RCT of MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD finds that study participants (n=90) had significant improvements in the measures of self-experience (e.g. alexithymia -; the inability to identify & describe emotions experienced by oneself). The change in scores of self-experience correlates with recovery from PTSD.

Spiritual health practitioners’ contributions to psychedelic assisted therapy: A qualitative analysis

Interviews with 15 spiritual health practitioners identified seven themes—five unique contributions (competence with spiritual material, awareness of power dynamics, familiarity with non‑ordinary states, holding space, and a counterbalance to biomedical perspectives) and two general contributions (therapeutic repertoire and interdisciplinary collaboration)—showing they offer distinctive expertise to psychedelic‑assisted therapy. The authors conclude that teams may benefit from including spiritual health practitioners, but standardised role definitions, qualifications and training are needed to ensure quality and safety.

Extended difficulties following the use of psychedelic drugs: A mixed methods study

This mixed‑methods study of 608 people reporting extended difficulties after psychedelic use found common problems—anxiety and fear, existential struggle, social disconnection and depersonalisation/derealisation—with about one third affected for over a year and one sixth for more than three years. Shorter duration was associated with knowing the dose and drug type and with lower acute difficulty, while a narrower range of difficulties was linked to taking the drug in a guided setting, with implications for harm reduction.

LSD-induced increase of Ising temperature and algorithmic complexity of brain dynamics

Using pairwise maximum-entropy (Ising) models and algorithmic-complexity measures on fMRI from 15 subjects, the study shows that LSD raises individualized Ising temperatures, shifting brain dynamics further into an above-critical, more disordered (paramagnetic) regime. This shift is accompanied by reduced homotopic interhemispheric connectivity and increased algorithmic complexity (notably BDM), and the derived Ising archetypes correlate strongly with a structural connectome template (r ≈ 0.6).
