A Pilot Study of Ketamine Infusion after Suicide Attempt: New Frontiers in Treating Acute Suicidality in a Real-World Medical Setting

In an open‑label pilot of 16 medically hospitalised recent suicide attempters, a single intravenous ketamine infusion (0.5 mg/kg) produced rapid, large reductions in suicidality and depression at 24 hours and 5 days (Cohen’s d 1.7–8.8) that were sustained up to six months. The study indicates ketamine is a feasible, rapidly acting intervention for acute suicidality in real‑world Consultation‑Liaison settings.

Association between Lifetime Classic Psychedelic Use and Sick Leave in a Population-Based Sample

Using representative US survey data (N = 407,717), the study found that lifetime use of classic psychedelics was significantly associated with lower sick leave in the past 30 days (B = −0.09, p < 0.01) after adjusting for sociodemographic and behavioural factors. The authors suggest psychedelics could potentially reduce sick leave and related costs, but stress that causal pathways and mechanisms need further investigation.

Cancer Healthcare Workers' Perceptions toward Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy: A Preliminary Investigation

This preliminary qualitative study interviewed 12 cancer healthcare professionals and found conditional openness to psychedelic-assisted therapy for advanced cancer, driven by unmet treatment needs and a desire to alleviate suffering. Acceptance was tempered by concerns about safety and risk, with participants emphasising the need for rigorous, well‑designed trials before clinical implementation.

From Egoism to Ecoism: Psychedelics Increase Nature Relatedness in a State-Mediated and Context-Dependent Manner

In a prospective online study of 654 people planning a psychedelic experience, nature relatedness increased at 2 weeks, 4 weeks and remained elevated 2 years after the event. The increase was linked to improved psychological well‑being and depended on state factors (ego‑dissolution) and the perceived influence of natural surroundings, indicating a context‑ and state‑mediated causal effect.

Predictors of Response to Ketamine in Treatment Resistant Major Depressive Disorder and Bipolar Disorder

This meta-analysis (2018) examined whether clinical and biological pretreatment variables could predict the treatment response of ketamine for patients with (bipolar) depression, but found that its antidepressant efficacy was highly variable and did not depend on any single predictor, although certain inflammatory biomarkers were associated with a positive response.
