Ketamine addiction following a single sub-anaesthetic ketamine treatment for acute suicidality in a psychiatrically multimorbid patient: case report

This case report describes a 25-year-old woman who developed ketamine addiction after a single sub-anaesthetic intranasal dose given for acute suicidality. She later escalated to daily illicit ketamine use, with cocaine and 3-MMC misuse, leading to financial and housing problems and a suicide attempt when access was stopped.

LSD-assisted therapy in patients with anxiety: open-label prospective 12-month follow-up

In a planned 12‑month open‑label follow‑up of a double‑blind, placebo‑controlled crossover trial, LSD‑assisted therapy produced sustained, clinically significant reductions in anxiety and depression with large effect sizes lasting up to nearly two years after treatment. Participants also showed decreased neuroticism, increased extraversion and reported positive long‑term effects attributed to the psychedelic experience.

Effects of psilocybin versus escitalopram on rumination and thought suppression in depression

In a randomised trial of 59 patients with major depressive disorder, psilocybin (COMP360) but not escitalopram produced significant reductions in rumination and thought suppression over 6 weeks; decreased thought suppression was specific to psilocybin responders while rumination fell in responders to both treatments. Reductions in both measures in the psilocybin arm correlated with ego dissolution and session-linked psychological insight, suggesting these processes may mediate its antidepressant effects.

Ketamine treatment for individuals with treatment-resistant depression: longitudinal qualitative interview study of patient experiences

In a longitudinal qualitative study of 12 patients with treatment-resistant depression, ketamine typically produced short-term improvements in mood and reductions in suicidal ideation, but benefits were transient for most and some experienced increased hopelessness and suicidality as effects wore off. Participants also reported side-effects and cost concerns, prompting recommendations for closer monitoring, adjunctive psychological therapy and explicit informed consent about relapse and potential worsening of suicidality.
