Psychedelic Sitters School

Data updated

United States

Operating since 2012 as the training program of the Center for Medicinal Mindfulness in Boulder, Colorado, Psychedelic Sitters School trains licensed clinicians and guides-in-training in Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Therapy® across four medicines—cannabis, ketamine, psilocybin, and DMT—through in-person, hybrid, and online formats. Now in their 13th year with over 35 cohorts completed, they are one of the longest-running psychedelic guide training programs in the United States.

Blossom’s read

Psychedelic Sitters School looks like a long-running, practice-led training operation rather than a glossy academic brand. Its strongest fit is probably for clinicians and experienced helping professionals who want a hands-on, legally minded pathway into psychedelic guide work, especially those drawn to a mindfulness-based and transpersonal frame rather than a narrow medical model. It appears well established within the Boulder psychedelic ecosystem, with clear lineage to the Center for Medicinal Mindfulness, but it is still best understood as a vocational training provider rather than a formal university-style credential.

Who Psychedelic Sitters School is for

Best suited to licensed clinicians, mental health and medical professionals, and other experienced practitioners who want practical training in psychedelic guiding and integration. It also appears open to non-clinicians transitioning into the field, but the clearest fit is for people aiming to work professionally in legal psychedelic service settings.

Prerequisites

The site says you do not need to be a therapist to qualify for the programme, though there are different pathways for newer practitioners, licensed mental health professionals, and ‘legacy practitioners’. Some advanced tracks have prerequisites, for example the DMT guide training lists a prior advanced program as a prerequisite, and the licensing pathway is separate from the core training.

Accreditation & recognition

The school describes itself as a vocational training and membership programme with credentialing in its own modalities, including Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Therapy and related guide/therapist/specialist credentials. It also states that the Colorado Natural Medicine Health Act facilitator pathway is an allied programme and that its didactic material can count towards that licensing route, but I found no evidence on the site of university accreditation or broad external professional accreditation. The tuition page also mentions continuing education offerings, and some training appears framed as CE-compatible, but I did not find a clear, universal CE/CME accreditation statement.

Cost

Core tuition is segmented by pathway. The site lists a 2026 application and interview fee of $150, foundational guide training packages from $3,745 online to $6,995 for an in-person mushroom practicum track, with scholarships said to reduce tuition by 10% to 40% and payment plans available over 3 to 9 months. Additional specialist courses are priced separately, and the licensing track is listed at $12,990 for the full package.

What you walk away with

Learners can walk away with training in Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Therapy, practical guiding competencies, and, depending on pathway, credentials such as Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Guide, Psychedelic Therapist, or Specialist. The programme also says it offers apprenticeships, employment opportunities at the centre, and support for starting a psychedelic private practice, alongside pathways into Colorado’s facilitator licensing route.
