Maurice Byrd, LMFT, is a trainer with the Harm Reduction Therapy Center. He has worked as a harm reductionist since 2004 and serves as Director of Training and Business Operations, while also providing therapy and clinical supervision. His background includes mental health services for adults and adolescents in schools, private practice, jails, prisons, homeless drop-in centers, needle exchanges, and street-based outreach. He has collaborated on community programs for people experiencing chronic mental health disorders, substance use disorders, and homelessness. Byrd specializes in teaching group facilitation, harm reduction groups, and the fundamentals of Harm Reduction Psychotherapy. He has also been trained in MDMA for PTSD with MAPS and ketamine-assisted therapy, and has provided individual and group ketamine-assisted therapy. He trains, teaches, supervises, and consults with clinical and non-clinical staff at nonprofit agencies, primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has also taught in the MFT program at Holy Names University and is a coauthor of a chapter in Decarcerating America.
