Childhood trauma, challenging experiences, and posttraumatic growth in ayahuasca use

In an online survey of 231 ayahuasca users, self‑reported childhood trauma was not associated with greater challenging experiences during acute ayahuasca effects nor with differences in posttraumatic growth, and acute challenging experiences were not linked to increased posttraumatic growth; this suggests childhood trauma may not predict poorer response to ayahuasca as it does for some other interventions.

MDMA-assisted psychotherapy with adolescents suffering from PTSD: Do or don’t? a qualitative study with youth, parents, and clinicians

This focus group study (n=19) investigated the perspectives of adolescents, parents, and clinicians on MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for adolescents with PTSD. Initial attitudes towards MDMA were mainly unfavourable, but after an explanation of the therapy, all but one participant supported its potential use, emphasizing the importance of research.

A phenomenological analysis of Fellini's films to understand the effect of LSD therapy on his creativity

The paper argues that controlled LSD therapy during Federico Fellini’s personal and creative crisis altered his phenomenological experience of time, space, body/others and the self, thereby enhancing his filmmaking. Manifestations such as irregular temporal flow and flashbacks, hyper‑vivid colours detached from objects, disembodied sounds, grotesquely distorted bodies and a collapse of dream and reality contributed to the distinctive "felliniesque" aesthetic.

Case report: Prolonged amelioration of mild red-green color vision deficiency following psilocybin mushroom use

This case report describes a person with mild red–green colour vision deficiency (deuteranomaly) who showed partial objective improvement on self‑administered Ishihara testing after ingesting 5 g dried psilocybin mushrooms, with peak effect at eight days and persistence for at least 16 days. The authors suggest a single psilocybin exposure may produce sustained post‑acute improvements in colour discrimination and call for systematic studies to confirm, generalise and elucidate the mechanism.

Psychedelics as potential catalysts of scientific creativity and insight

This theory-building article (2022) proposes that the dream, hypnagogic and psychedelic states share common features that make them conducive to supporting some aspects of scientific creativity and examines the putative underlying neurophenomenological and cognitive processes involved. The psychedelic state may have the potential to enhance creativity as a result of phenomena like brain hyperconnectivity, meta-cognitive awareness and more.

Improved colour blindness symptoms associated with recreational psychedelic use: Results from the Global Drug Survey 2017

Analysis of self-reports from the Global Drugs Survey 2017 found that 23 of 47 usable respondents described improved colour blindness after using psychedelics (commonly LSD and psilocybin), with some changes persisting from days to years. The authors present this as preliminary evidence and suggest a mechanism in which psychedelic-induced novel photisms become linked to pre-existing colour concepts via enhanced visual–linguistic cortical connectivity, recommending targeted follow-up studies.
