Critical Perspectives on Knowledge Production in Psychedelic Science examines methodological and ethical questions in contemporary psychedelic research. The course looks at how trials are designed, which variables and measures are prioritized, and how subjective experience, set and setting, placebo controls, and the entourage effect are treated in research and clinical contexts. It also addresses broader questions about how knowledge is produced and whose perspectives are centered or marginalized in the field. Topics include the role of the humanities, historical and political influences on research design, Indigenous perspectives, neuro-centric versus neurophenomenological approaches, and differences in research contexts across the Global North and South. The course is aimed at participants interested in psychedelic science, research, ethics, and interdisciplinary perspectives. It includes learning objectives related to clinical trials, microdosing, religion, and regional case studies, including Brazil, Mexico, and Uruguay.
